ABSTRACT
PURPOSE : The purpose of this study were to describe the ultrasonographic features of placental polyp and todetermine the diagnostic role of ultrasonography. MATERIAL & METHODS : The clinical findings and the findings oftransvaginal sonography and sonohysterography in 5 patients with pathologically proved placental polyp werereviewed retrospectively RESULTS : One patient had a history of delivery 18 months ago and four patients underwentabortion 2~4 months ago. In all cases, pregnancy tests were negative. Serum HCG was elevated in 4 cascs. Atsonography, the lesion was either multiplr small pedunculated endometrial mass with irregular margin(n=2) or asingle large inhomogenous echoic mass within the uterine cavity invading the myometrium(n=3). The lesion involvedthe uterine fundus and corpus. CONCLUSlON : These findings suggest that differentiation of placental polyp fromintrauterine mass, such as an endometrial polyp, degenerated submucosal myoma and trophoblastic tumors, may bepossible with the help of both transvaginal sonography and sonohysterography.
