ABSTRACT
PURPOSE : To evaluate the ultrasonographic findings of ruptured Achilles tendon after healing by surgical orconservative treatment. MATERIALS & METHODS : Ultrasonography of Achilles tendon was performed in 15 patients withAchilles tendon injury that was believed to be cured after surgical or conservative treatment. We used 7MHz linertransducer. Ultrasonographic characteristics of the affected tendon were compared with those of the oppositehealthy tendon in terms of echogenicity and thickness of tendon, contour disruption, and surrounding fluidcollection. RESULTS : The thickeness of the affected Achilles tendon was significantly greater than that of thehealthy tendon(P<0.001). Ultrasonographic findings included focal hylpoechogenicity(4), diffusehypoechogenicity(9), isoecho-genicity(2) and focal sonolucent area(6). CONCLUSION : Ultrasonographic findings ofhealed Achilles are diffuse increase in thickeness and diffuse or focal decrease in echogeni-city in the avsenceof surrounding fluid collection or hematoma.
