ABSTRACT
PURPOSE: To evaluate the success of 18-gauge needle in ultrasound guided percutaneous renal biopsy by using automated biopsy gun. MATERIALS & METHODS: Seventeen biopsies were performed in 17 patients with clinical suspicion of diffuse renal disease. The success of the technique was evaluated by analysis of histopathologic data, and the complications of the procedure from post-procedure ultrasonograms and clinical records. RESULTS: An average of 23 glomeruli (range 2-61) were seen per biopsy. There were no complications on post-procedure ultrasonograms, although one case presented gross hematuria not required blood transfusion or surgical intervention. CONCLUSION: It seems that 18-gauge needle is a successful tool for ultrasound guided renal biopsy by using automated biopsy gun.
