Since its launch as an international peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to medical ultrasound (US) in January 2014, Ultrasonography has published a total of 395 peer-reviewed articles and became indexed by the Web of Science’s Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) in September 2019, marking it as one of the leading global journals in the field of medical US [1]. It is my privilege to serve as the editor-in-chief of Ultrasonography, and it is humbling to succeed Professor Jeong-Sik Yu, Ultrasonography’s founding editor. As a deputy editor of this journal for the last 7 years, I have admired his tremendous efforts and responsibility in guiding the publication of qualified articles that fulfill the aims of Ultrasonography. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for his 9-year span of service, which brought the journal to meet global standards in the field of medical US.

Ultrasonography received a 2020 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) impact factor of 3.675, and its JCR ranking was in the second quartile in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Imaging category. Given the current trend, we expect the 2021 impact factor to jump well above 4.0 [2]. As the new editor-in-chief, reflecting on the purpose and scope of Ultrasonography, I am contemplating effective strategies to increase the quantity and the quality of the content published in the journal. To become a globally leading medical US journal, we will continue to promote and publish high-quality peerreviewed research. We continue to invite internationally renowned scholars to submit reviews of the latest research and introductions to innovative new technologies to enhance the quality of the content and to attract a larger international readership. The increasing number of submissions has recently placed a heavy burden on editors and reviewers [3]. Editors always appreciate reviewers’ hard work and contributions; however, the efficiency of the peer review process needs to be improved for more timely publication of papers with outstanding research results. We will maintain high-quality editing and publishing services without cost, and authors will continue to have a satisfying publication experience when submitting their work.

Along with running the annual international congress of Korean Society of Ultrasound in Medicine, Ultrasonography also serves as a venue for collaboration among physicians and specialists from around the world who are focusing on various US technology and disease problems and relevant basic science. We look forward to your continued readership and authorship, which supports the success and increases the impact of Ultrasonography.
