The purpose of this pictorial review was to describe various echocardiographic techniques that can be used in the functional assessment of the fetal heart. The systolic and diastolic assessments of the fetal heart have been dealt with separately, with an emphasis on two-dimensional Doppler methods while also addressing new technologies. The aim of this summary was to review which tools can be used by the echocardiographer and from there, systematize the execution of this functional assessment, evaluating the technique for which the examiner has greater skills, with completion of sequential exams in those fetuses that may develop cardiac dysfunction.
